International Men’s Health is observed between 13th and 19th June. It is a week when the world acknowledges the issues and stigmas surrounding men’s health. Several events are organized to raise awareness regarding those issues and their possible solutions. This week encourages men and everyone around them to speak about their problems openly.

During the pandemic, the focus has been on mental and physical well-being. This year’s theme for International Men’s Health Week is “time for your M.O.T”.

M.O.T in the UK is when you go for a full physical and mental check-up at the hospital.

This year the emphasis is on men’s health inside out. It also asks men to take notice of all the physical and mental health problems brushed aside during the pandemic.

Men And Their Health

According to a study , men are more likely to commit suicide compared to women. 1 in 8 men struggle with mental health problems such as stress, depression, and anxiety. When these problems are not dealt with, they can worsen with time leading to suicide ideation and more. This is why this week is important for everyone because it allows men to reach out and ask for help.

Tips To Improve Men’s Health

When you don’t feel physically and mentally fit, it can lead to a myriad of problems. It is men who suffer the most due to the social norms discouraging men from opening up, or encouraging them to bottle up their feelings and act “manly men”. Human beings are social animals, we need to feel loved, supported, and taken care of. Communities are formed for a reason.

When people voice out their concerns and talk about their issues it can help you feel better. You get a sense of belonging and community. You feel encouraged to resolve the problems you face which can prevent you from taking drastic measures with negative consequences.

Here are some tips to help you improve your physical, emotional, and mental well-being.

Conversation

As mentioned above, talking or conversing with your family and friends can have a huge positive impact on your health.  It can be very tough for men to discuss their problems with others because they have been taught to be the protectors and providers.

Talking helps you explore your darkest, deepest feelings and emotions. They could infest your entire system if you don’t let them out. Therefore, talking or having a conversation is very important, be it with your family, friends, or a therapist.

Workout

Exercising has been proven to help with physical and mental well-being. The feel-good endorphins released during a robust workout session can do wonders for you. It can make you feel good about yourself and clear your mind to deal with problems in a rational way.

Here is an exercise regime you can take up for a surge in energy.

Going Outdoors

Being in nature is an excellent way to improve your mental and physical well-being. Watching the birds fly by, the glistening lake by the park, and people going about their days. The movement of the world we live in makes us feel alive. Besides, it’s a good way to take a break from sitting indoors all day with our eyes glued to technology.

Key Takeaway
